The Power of Student Voice

Everyday teachers face a classroom of students who are expected to take everything that is said to them, learn it, regurgiate it and test over it in some form whether they like it or not. However, in many school environments, students have no say over what happens in the classroom when they are the ones expected to produce results in the end. Why not engage students in a conversation to see what they want to learn and how they want to learn it and then how they would like to demonstrate mastery. This is how to make learning relevent.

At South Hillls High School, SILC (Student Innovation Learning Committee) host a bi-weekly show to talk about this issue and other various topics that push the value of Student Voice. Listening has brough about some change in the classroom that has had positive impacts. Why not try listening to the Student Voice to see how to meet students where they are.
