Let The Fun Begin
I can't believe this is actually happening! Monday was the kick-off event for the student design contest to bring The DILo (Digial Innovation Lounge) to fruition. We began the challenge with a great message from
Dale Halvorsen, North Texas Director at KI about the true definition of Design. Students were encouraged to think of design as a way of bringing everything together in harmony to meet the needs of those who will use the space. Teams were told not to just concentrate on the aesthetics or functionality, but more wholistically. Mr. Halvorsen also praised the students for participating in such a legacy building activity and expressed how unique of an opportunity this is.
Student teams were announced during the event. Each team will be captained by two members of SILC (Student Innovation Leadership Committe) and anchored by at least one student from South Hills Architect class. What's exciting is one of our teams is comprised of all ladies, which coincides with one of our missions to bring more relevant S.T.E.A.M. opportunities to women, especially those of the minority. Each team will be paired with 2 Texas Christian University (TCU) Interior Design students and 2 Huckabee and Associates Architecture Firm Intern later in the week.
This is going to be an exiting 12 weeks.
The project will be manage from a communication aspect using Slack. Other tools such as Trello and Sketchboard are accessible within Slack for organizational purposes.
