Millions of kids participated all over the globe, we just did with Samsung.

During Computer Science Education Week students all over Harry Stone learned an aspect of coding ulizing specialized application set up by code.org for this special week. We brought in many of Stone's students into the lab to participate in a Samsung School lesson involving one of these applications. For several hours every day during this week, students sat in a quick lesson session using the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1. Mr. Smith conducted the lesson, some directly from his tablet which was displayed on the 65" Overlay Display and the rest using the touch screen directly. The lesson involved the Light Bot Application specifically for the Hour of Code. Students learned to problem solve using coding patterns to dictate the robot character's movements. It was a great time and a great use of the tablets. Students were able to share their tablets screen to demonstrate what codes they used to solve certain puzzles. Others became the teacher and used the touch screen to code. What a great experience.

Then we took it futher...

We added a computer science component to our Intro To Productivity coures and the excitement really rose. Students were challenged with series of puzzles where they needed to use some serious problem solving skills to analyze and evaluate in order to find the solution. What was most exciting was the collaboration that took place in order to conquer the challenges of each puzzle.  As a result, we had 30 students complete the program. 40% of the students who earned certificates were girls.
