Samsung Pilot

In our efforts to develop a meaningful 1:1 program for our students in the IB program at Harry Stone, finding the right device is critical. In November, Harry Stone and Samsung developed a partnership to pilot Samsung's educational offering; Samsung School. This page is dedicated to showcasing how Harry Stone implemented the technology to fit the needs of the students.

What was included?

1. 65" Overlay Display Monitor: Everyone wants a smart board in the classroom. Well, Samsung offered us a HDTV with a overlay attachement that allows the TV to double as a touch screen display. With a Samsung Laptop attached via HDMI, the TV works as the monitor displaying whatever the laptop displays with full capability of controling the computer directly on the display.

2. 30 Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1

3. Samsung School Content Management Program which also has a suitable Device Management component embedded.

Testimonial

“I prefer working on the tablet rather than working with pencil and paper. My interest is peaked when because I'm working with a device with so many ways to allow me to learn."

What We Are Doing

And So We Begin...

Scheduling in the lab is the challenge, however, with using tablets, your classroom is now mobile. However, using the overlay display and Samsung School is very important, so we are trying to be creative with our rotations. The pages on the left will lead you to the creative ways we have implemented the pilot so far.

Teacher Training

Considering we only had 30 devices and 1 Dispay, we had to be selective in regards to who would participate in the Pilot. 6 Teachers were chosen to be trained covering curriculum for Humanities, Science, Math, Foreign Language, Fine Arts and Advanced Technology. We spent the first 3-Weeks training the teachers how to use the Tablet and spent hours brainstorming how best to use them in the classroom.

Student Training

Needless to say, the students were ecstatic to be able to use tablets in the classroom. With the lab being the central location for everything, students attended training sessions to learn how to use the tablets appropriately while reiterating the AUP in place for Harry Stone and Dallas ISD. The Advanced Technology Ambassadors were trained first and served as Peer trainers for all the students involved in the pilot.
